BEIJING, April 26. /TASS/. The international community should respond to instances of protectionism, one form of which is represented by illegitimate unilateral sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the opening ceremony of One Belt One Road (OBOR) forum in Beijing.

"It is important to develop an effective response to risks of fragmentation of political, economic and technological space, to increasing protectionism, with its most dangerous form of frequently used illegitimate unilateral restrictions adopted bypassing the UN Security Council, or, what's even worse, trade wars," Putin said.

The international community should work together to withstand such threats as slowing global economic growth, development gaps between different countries and technological backwardness. "I have said it many times and want to repeat that those negative tendencies create grounds for terrorism, extremism and illegal migration, stand behind re-igniting old and starting new regional conflicts," the Russian president stressed.

Eurasia can become an example of developing a comprehensive positive agenda to resolve the aforementioned and other problems, Putin said.
