Chechnya’s head says doesn’t care about US sanctions
Kadyrov also said he "never had any assets in the Middle East, Europe or America"
GROZNY, March 13. /TASS/. Chechnya’s head Ramzan Kadyrov has commented on a US House of Representatives resolution by saying he doesn’t care about US sanctions.
Earlier on Tuesday, the US House of Representatives adopted a resolution "calling for accountability and justice for the assassination of [Russian politician] Boris Nemtsov." The document condemns Russian authorities, who, according to US legislators, covered up the assassination of Nemtsov. The House called on the US administration "to designate individuals whom they determine to have been involved in the assassination of Boris Nemtsov as perpetrators, organizers, or masterminds, on the list of specially designated nationals and blocked persons maintained by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Department of the Treasury, freezing their assets and making them ineligible to receive United States visas." The resolution, in particular, says, that "despite requests from the legal team representing Boris Nemtsov’s family, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and the Moscow District Military Court have refused to question high-ranking persons of interest, including Ramzan Kadyrov."
"I don’t really care about what US legislators think and what decisions they make. I have never had any assets in the Middle East, Europe or America. Those in Washington hate not only me but my horses as well, for they compete with American racehorses," Kadyrov wrote on Telegram.
According to him, "the resolution’s authors make no secret of their intention to further complicate Donald Trump’s policy towards Russia."
"They have used Boris Nemtsov’s murder as an excuse. They blame me for calling Zaur Dadayev a patriot of Russia and refusing to believe he was guilty of the crime. I had, and still have, the right to hold such an opinion because I saw him in battle, it was when about 15 dangerous terrorists were killed in a serious fight," Chechnya’s head said, adding that he still believed Dadayev was innocent.
Boris Nemtsov, Russia’s former deputy prime minister under then-President Boris Yeltsin, co-chairman of the Parnas party and lawmaker from the Yaroslavl regional legislature, was gunned down in downtown Moscow on February 27, 2015. Five individuals were arrested on suspicion of murdering the politician: Zaur Dadayev, Anzor and Shadid Gubashev, Temirlan Eskerkhanov and Khamzat Bakhayev. In July 2017, the convicted perpetrators received sentences ranging from 11 to 20 years in a maximum security penal colony.
