EU Gas Directive amendments to be adopted in coming months — EU
The document is yet to be approved by the European Parliament and the European Council
MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. Amendments to the EU Gas Directive, which would extend European standards to all cross-border pipelines, will get the final approval "in the coming months," the European Commission said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the final version has been provisionally agreed by negotiators from the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission.
"Following this provisional political agreement, the text of the Directive will be prepared in all EU languages and will have to be formally approved by the European Parliament and the Council," the statement reads. "Once endorsed by both co-legislators in the coming months, the new law will be published in the Official Journal of the Union."
The Directive will have to be transposed into national law within 9 months.
German and French media reported last Friday that Paris and Berlin have prepared a compromise variant of amendments, which leave Berlin wide possibilities for implementing the Nord Stream-2 pipeline project with Russia.
