Transit of goods from Moldova to Russia via the territory of Ukraine will restart from January 31

MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. Transit of goods from Moldova to Russia via the territory of Ukraine will restart from January 31, President of Moldova Igor Dodon told TASS in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

"We agreed that our exporters will be able to deliver their goods to the Russian market by transit via Ukraine actually from tomorrow. I think this is the most important agreement all our producers were waiting for. This is because all producers of wine, canned goods and other commodity positions from the Republic of Moldova fell under such restrictions from January 1. We settled it today; I think this is a great achievement," Dodon said.

The decree of the Russian government carried into effect from January 1 of this year, which imposes a ban on import of Ukrainian goods to Russia and goods of other countries delivered to Russia by transit via Ukraine.

Moldova’s relations with Russia will reach a higher level in 2019, he said.

"At today’s meeting with the Russian president [we] shared views on the Moldovan-Russian economic ties, cooperation in trade and in the humanitarian field. Summing up two years’ cooperation between the heads of state, we pointed out that by now the conditions have been created to raise the Moldovan-Russian relations to a qualitatively new level," Dodon wrote on his Facebook page.

Dodon is convinced that Moldova’s parliamentary election scheduled for February 24 will bring about a government "that will prioritize" the renewal of "relations with Russian Federation as mutually beneficial cooperation and strategic partnership."

According to Moldova’s president, he thanked Putin for providing Kamaz vehicles which are expected to arrive in Moldova in coming days.
