Reconstruction of Naryan-Mar airport’s runway to begin in 2020

According to the local authorities, the reconstruction’s cost will be 2.3 billion rubles

TASS, January 25. The runway’s reconstruction at the airport in Naryan-Mar will cost more than 2 billion rubles ($30 million), the Nenets Region’s Governor Alexander Tsybulsky told TASS on Friday, adding the works would begin in 2020.

"In Naryan-Mar the reconstruction will begin next year," he said. "We plan full reconstruction of the runway as its quality nowadays cannot allow receiving planes of certain classes."

"The runway will be upgraded and it will have a new coating, plus upgrade of the taxiways," he added.

According to the governor, the reconstruction’s cost will be 2.3 billion rubles. "Later on, if we succeed, in the form of public-private partnership, we shall build a new terminal, but this would be under a state program," he explained.

Earlier, the Russian government adopted a plan to 2024 to upgrade and expand infrastructures, which includes renovation of the airport in Naryan-Mar.
