Putin calls for looking beyond horizon if Russia gets to host Expo 2025

There are three cities bidding for the Expo, including Russia's Yekaterinburg

PARIS, November 23. /TASS/. Russia suggests discussing the use of robotics and the globalization process if the city of Yekaterinburg is granted the right to host the 2025 Expo, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) via a video link on Friday.

"We have come with an up-to-date theme for the forum, which goes like ‘Changing the World: Innovations and Better Life for Future Generations.’ We are ready to arrange the 2025 Expo in Yekaterinburg, seeking to look beyond the horizon and discuss the rapid changes stemming from the technological revolution so that we can understand what prosperity prospects digitization and the use of robotics offer to human kind," the Russian president said in his video address.

Putin pointed out that it was a great honor for him to present Yekaterinburg’s bid. "This city is rightfully considered to be our country’s industrial and educational capital," he said. "It is currently Russia’s fourth largest city, an important and rapidly growing economic center," Putin noted, adding that Yekaterinburg was a city where business, research, culture and cutting-edge technologies were developing at a high pace.

The Russian president also stressed that Yekaterinburg had experience in hosting big events, including 2018 FIFA World Cup matches.

Apart from Yekaterinburg, other candidate cities to host the 2025 Expo are Japan’s Osaka and Azerbaijan’s Baku, while Paris withdrew its nomination.

The Expo is scheduled to take place between May 2 and November 2, 2025.
