Russia's Interior Ministry records over 80,000 IT-related crimes in six months

Total damage caused by cyber crimes exceeded $4.8 bln

MOSCOW, August 10. /TASS/. More than 80,000 IT-related crimes were recorded in Russia between January and June 2018, a source in the Interior Ministry told TASS.

"Between January and June 2018, as many as 80,217 crimes involving the use of computer and telecommunications technologies were committed in Russia, and 21,759 of them were solved," the ministry’s statistical data says.

Statistics adds that in the first six months of the year, around one million crimes of various sorts were recorded in the country, which is 3.6% less compared to the same period of 2017. "The number of crimes has grown in 23 Russian regions, while in 62 regions, less crimes were recorded," the ministry source noted.

At the same time, according to the Russian Interior Ministry, the total damage caused by crimes exceeded 325 bln rubles ($4.8 bln), which is a 53% rise from 2017.
