Kremlin: Kim Jong-un did not confirm his EEF participation yet
The delegations of China, South Korea, North Korea and Japan earlier said they planned to take part in the forum
MOSCOW, August 10. /TASS/. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has not yet confirmed his participation in the work of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
"No confirmation yet," the Kremlin spokesman said when asked whether there is the formal confirmation that Russia’s invitation has been accepted.
An invitation to visit Russia was handed over to the North Korean leader by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his visit to Pyongyang on May 31. The Eastern Economic Forum was mentioned as a possible reason for this visit. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev earlier said that the North Korean delegation would take part in the upcoming forum.
The Eastern Economic Forum is an annual event aimed at promoting the development of the Far Eastern Region and expanding international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. This year it is scheduled to be held on September 11-13. The delegations of China, South Korea, North Korea and Japan earlier said they planned to take part in the forum.
