NOVOSIBIRSK, July 18. Thirteen new areas with highly probable diamond deposits were found in West Yakutia, including the region’s Arctic territory. Those areas are put on a map, made by specialists of the Academy of Sciences’ Sobolev Institute of Geology and Mineralogy, the Institute’s Head, Academician Nikolai Pokhilenko told TASS.

"We have made up a map of West Yakutia, including its Arctic territory, on which we have marked 13 promising points of possible big diamond deposits: every point contains coordinates, prospection, a list of necessary works and an estimated cost of resources," he said. "We have also listed necessary works to prepare those areas for development."

The work to find new deposits was made at the task from Rosgeologiya, a state holding, which unites state-run geology companies, he added.

"Rosgeologiya was satisfied with the work we have done, and asked us to give information about forecasted resources," the expert said. "Our estimation is - the amount of diamonds there could make about 300 million carats."

Russia’s diamond producer, the ALROSA Company, works in Yakutia and in the Arkhangelsk region. Russia’s share in diamond production is about 27%.
