MOSCOW, July 6. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for the development of a level playing field in the digital sphere, which would consider the rights and interests of all states.
"Freedom is important in this turbulent digital era - the freedom of communication and exchange of experience and ideas. That said, it is extremely important to form a level playing field and a common international standard which would take into account the rights and interests of all states," Putin said, speaking at Sberbank’s Cyber Security International Congress.
The Russian head of state underscored that the global community has been able to see for itself repeatedly that the egoism of some countries and their attempts to act only for the benefit of their domestic interests damage global information stability. Putin cited Russia’s coordination of common rules for personal data protection with European countries in the Council of Europe as a positive example of inter-state cooperation.
"Highly significant decisions were made which do not allow the illegal transfer of personal data of our citizens to other countries. I should also note here that Russia forwarded a number of initiatives related to the rules of responsible behavior of states in the information sphere, legal mechanism for countering cyber crime and the international regulation of the Internet," the president said.
Putin added that Russia intended to further promote these initiatives, chiefly in the UN.
