Russian military prevent suicide bombings in Syria's Eastern Ghouta
More than 11,000 militants and 130,000 refugees have left the area, Russia's top brass says
MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Russian military have cut short attempted suicide bombings on busses carrying refugees in Eastern Ghouta, Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Thursday at a meeting with UN Secretary General's special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura.
"We get information from ordinary people every day," he said. "We received a report on provocations involving suicide bomber belts four days ago. It suggested the suicide bombers would be placed to the busses carrying the refugees."
"Unfortunately, this data proved to be correct," Shoigu said.
He indicated that the Russian military had managed to remove seven belts from the misfit bombers on Monday, 32 belts on Tuesday, and nine belts on Wednesday.
"It’s easy enough to imagine what would have happened if they had blown themselves up inside the busses full of children and women," Shoigu said.
