Russia demands revision of cross-border humanitarian operations in Syria

UNITED NATIONS, November 29. /TASS/. Deliveries of humanitarian aid to Syria from neighboring countries in bypass of Damascus, which the UN Security Council authorized in 2014, cannot continue in their current form any longer and stand in need of a revision, the Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzya said on Wednesday at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

"The Security Council is facing a serious discussion of cross-border operations in the absence of quality monitoring over them," he said, adding that Moscow would request consultations on the issue.

"This mechanism should not be kept up in its current form because it infringes on Syria's sovereignty and runs counter to the principles of international humanitarian cooperation coordinated by the UN General Assembly," Nebenzya said. "Some time ago, it became an unprecedented emergency measure that requires reassessment today."
