Russia's armaments program to attach priority to missile ships, nuclear subs

The main emphasis in the forthcoming ten-year period will be on building littoral combat ships armed with high accuracy weapons, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said

ST. PETERSBURG, November 29. /TASS/. Littoral combat ships armed with high accuracy missiles and strategic multi-role submarines will be the key component of the state program for armaments in 2018-2027, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said on Wednesday.

"Last week there was a conference in Sochi chaired by the commander-in-chief Vladimir Putin. It discussed in detail a new state program for armaments extending till 2027, including the development of the Navy. The main proposals we had formulated were approved," Borisov said at a meeting with the Navy’s commanders and representatives of the United Shipbuilding Corporation devoted to progress in implementing the 2017 state defense order.

"The main emphasis in the forthcoming ten-year period will be on building littoral combat ships armed with high accuracy weapons, including cruise missiles," he said.

"The strategic nuclear fleet, multi-role submarines will be developed and nuclear powered guided missile cruisers The Admiral Nakhimov and The Pyotr Veliki will undergo repairs and upgrade. There is much work ahead," Borisov said.
