Newest Arctic military equipment to take part in V-Day parade in Moscow for first time
The general public will for the first time be able to see such air defense weapons as Tor-M2DT and missile, artillery system Pantsir-SA and support vehicles
ALABINO /Moscow Region/, April 5. /TASS/. The newest Arctic military equipment will participate in the May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow’s Red Square for the first time, ground forces commander Colonel-General Oleg Salyukov told the media on Wednesday.
"Arctic military equipment will participate in the parade for the first time. The general public will for the first time be able to see such air defense weapons as Tor-M2DT and missile, artillery system Pantsir-SA and support vehicles," Salyukov said during the first training of forces selected for the parade.
"Also, we may present upgraded configurations of the well-known models of tanks, possibly, T-72B3M," Salyukov said, adding that the military equipment he mentioned was capable of maintaining Russia’s security in the rigorous Arctic climate in rugged roadless terrain far away from logistic facilities.
The air defense system Tor-M2 is meant for protection from enemy aircraft and missiles at the division level. It is capable of providing defense for ground forces from strikes by anti-radar and cruise missiles, remote-controlled aircraft, glide bombs, planes and helicopters. Under a contract between the electro-mechanical plant Kupol in Izhevsk and the machine-building corporation Vityaz, published on the government purchases website, research and design work for upgrading and adjusting Tor-M2 for the Arctic conditions are to be carried out in 2015-2020. The system will be installed on the articulated tracked chassis DT-30PM-T1.
