Moscow suggests restoring working contacts between militaries of Russia, NATO
The Russian Defense Ministry put forward specific proposals which are still on the table
BRUSSELS, March 30. /TASS/. Russia’s Defense Ministry has forwarded specific proposals to NATO concerning the restoration of normal working contacts between the militaries, Russia’s Permanent Representative to NATO Alexander Grushko said on Thursday.
While commenting on the results of this year's first ambassadorial meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, he said that "we are ready to cooperate in order to find ways to ease tensions as well as to reduce the risk of military incidents." "The Russian Defense Ministry put forward specific proposals which are still on the table," he added.
Thursday’s Russia-NATO Council meeting comes ahead of a ministerial meeting of the North Atlantic Council, due on March 31. Last year, the Russia-NATO Council met three times. Before the crisis in Ukraine broke out, paralyzing the activity of the Council, its ambassadorial meetings were held several times a month.
In spring 2014, NATO suspended cooperation with Moscow following Crimea’s reunification with Russia, deciding however that the Russia-NATO Council framework should be maintained as a channel for political dialogue.
