Putin orders to eliminate defense industry drawbacks exposed in military drills
SOCHI, November 17. /TASS/. Military drills held this year have demonstrated that defense enterprises are largely coping with the task of supplying troops with military hardware but certain defects have been exposed, which need to be eliminated, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.
As Putin said, sudden combat readiness checks held at the beginning of the year and at the Kavkaz-2016 strategic command and staff drills in autumn paid special attention to the issues of supplying troops with military hardware, and also defense enterprises’ readiness to make military products necessary for the Armed Forces.
"Basically, the enterprises have been able to cope with their tasks. At the same time, certain defects have been exposed - and it can’t be otherwise in such large-scale work - and these drawbacks may eventually affect the volumes and the timeliness of military output deliveries," the Russian president said.
In this situation, some instructions were given and work was launched to eliminate these defects, Putin said.
"Specifically, work is underway to improve the regulatory, legal and methodological provision of industrial enterprises related to mobilization tasks, create a reserve of components and production resources," the Russian president said.
Also, special training has been organized for the heads of ministries and departments, and also for regional governors, Putin said.
"Let us see and analyze today what has already been done and what has to be done to fulfil the tasks of building up the production capacity of defense enterprises and let us also discuss how to improve the system of the state supplies reserve and raise the efficiency of using available reserves," the president said, addressing the participants in the meeting that was held behind closed doors after that.
