Bombers and interceptor aircraft redeployed to southern Russia from Perm
Previous reports said that MiG-29SMT and MiG-31BM aircraft as well as Su-34 aircraft had been relocated to the airfields in southern Russia from the Western Military District
MOSCOW, August 26 /TASS/. Sukhoi Su-24 bombers and MiG-31 interceptor aircraft have been re-deployed from Russia’s northern Perm territory to southern Russia as part of a snap combat readiness check, the press service of the Central Military District told journalists on Friday.
"The crews of the MiG-31 interceptor aircraft and Su-24 frontline bombers belonging to the tactical aviation of the Central Military District left the Sokol airfield (Perm territory) to the operational airfields of the Southern Military District as part of a combat readiness snap check," a statement received by TASS said.
The commands of the 14th Air Force and Anti-Aircraft army as well as a number of its units have been embattled.
Previous reports said that MiG-29SMT and MiG-31BM aircraft as well as Su-34 aircraft had been relocated to the airfields in southern Russia from the Western Military District. The Mi-8, Mi-24, Mi-35 and Mi-28N helicopters have been relocated from St. Petersburg to the Krasnodar territory in southern Russia.
The snap check of combat readiness will be under way in the Russian Armed Forces from August 25 to 31. It involves the forces of the Southern Military District, the troops of the Central and Western Military Districts as well as the Northern Fleet, Aerospace Forces and Airborne Troops. The surprise check was launched as part of preparations for the Caucasus-2016 strategic exercise slated for September.
