YEKATERINBURG, August 23. /TASS/. A Russian peacekeeping contingent will use a set of novel technologies, weaponry and apparel at the international exercise Inviolable Brotherhood 2016 where it will act alongside the peacekeeping contingents from other countries, which make up the CIS Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a spokesman for the Central Military District said on Tuesday.
"More than 300 men, who have about 70 units of equipment and technology at their disposal, are taking part in the exercise in Belarus on the Russian side," said Col Yaroslav Roshchupkin, an assistant to the Commander of the Central Military District.
"BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, the Ratnik outfits, which all the participating soldiers are wearing, the Lesochek radio-electronic warfare kits, the Azart sixth-generation radio stations, and the Strelets reconnaissance/control/communications complexes will be used in the united system of reconnaissance, control and fire for effect, if need be," Col Roshchupkin said.
The Russian peacekeeping units within the CSTO grouping will take part in a simulation of a peacekeeping operation.
"They will disengage the conflicting parties and disarm the warlords of a paramilitary formation," the spokesman said. "At the culmination of the exercise, they will create a demilitarized zone and the corridors for a free passage of refugees and humanitarian cargoes."
Army helicopters Mi-8 ATMS Tetminator and Mi-24 were dispatched to Belarus earlier as part of the exercise program.
Inviolable Brotherhood 2016 will take place from August 23 through to August 27 at the Obuz-Lesnovsky training grounds in the Brest region. Beside the Russian and Belarusian military, peacekeepers from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan will take part.
