Project 11356 lead frigate Admiral Grigorovich arrives at Sevastopol naval base

The frigate performed a passage from the Baltic to the Black Sea Fleet

MOSCOW, June 9. /TASS/. The Admiral Grigorovich frigate has arrived at the place of its permanent basing in Sevastopol, spokesman for the Black Sea Fleet Vyacheslav Trukhachyov said on Thursday.

"This is the first vessel for distant water operation, which the Black Sea Fleet has received over the past 35 years," the spokesman said.

For its arrival at Sevastopol, the frigate performed a passage from the Baltic to the Black Sea Fleet. The vessel left Baltiysk on April 29 and headed for the Mediterranean Sea where it called at Malta Island. In its passage in Sevastopol Bay, the frigate was accompanied by anti-sabotage boats and Kamov Ka-27 helicopters of the Black Sea Fleet’s naval aviation.

"A salute was given at the entrance pier to welcome the vessel’s arrival," Trukhachyov said.

The Admiral Grigorovich frigate was transferred to the Black Sea Fleet on March 11, 2016.

The frigate Admiral Grigorovich is the first out of six Project 11356 vessels designed for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The first serial vessel of this family Admiral Essen joined the Russian Navy on Tuesday. The third frigate Admiral Makarov is expected to be transferred to the Navy by the yearned.

It was reported earlier that Russia was discussing a possibility of transferring the fourth, fifth and sixth vessels of this series to India.

The frigate Admiral Grigorovich was laid down in late 2010 and put afloat in the spring of 2014.

The Project 11356 frigate is designed to attack the enemy’s surface ships and submarines in the nearest zone and ocean areas and fight aerial targets both independently and within a formation.

It is armed with the A-190 100mm artillery gun and ballistic attack and air defense systems, including Kalibr-NK and Shtil missiles, as well as torpedo tubes.

The ship can carry a Kamov Ka-27 (NATO reporting name: Helix-A) helicopter or its versions.

The Project 11356 frigate has a displacement of 4,000 tons, a length of 124.8 meters, a full speed of 30 knots and endurance of 4,850 miles.
