Russian former Northern Fleet commander appointed Navy commander
Viktor Chirkov who has been the Navy commander since May 5, 2012 resigned because of illness
MOSCOW, April 7. /TASS/. Admiral Vladimir Korolev who has been in command of the Russian Northern Fleet since 2011 has been appointed commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, the Russian Defense Ministry reported in its website on Thursday.
"In April 2016, Korolev was appointed to the post of the Russian Navy’s commander-in-chief," the ministry said.
Korolev has succeeded on the post Viktor Chirkov who has been the Navy commander since May 5, 2012 and resigned because of illness.
Nikolai Yevmenov has been appointed the Northern Fleet’s new commander. He served previously as deputy commander of the Northern Fleet. "In April 2016, he was appointed Commander of the Northern Fleet by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation," according to the ministry's website.
Vladimir Korolev was born on February 1, 1955. He graduated from the Frunze Higher Naval School in Leningrad, from the Navy’s Higher Special Officer Classes and the Kuznetsov Naval Academy. He was in command of the Black Sea and Northern Fleets. In December 2014, Korolev was entrusted with managing the Joint Strategic Command "North". He was acting commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy since November 2015.
Nikolai Yevmenov was born in Moscow in April 1962. In 1987 he graduated from the Leninsky Komsomol Higher Submarine Navigation School and the Kuznetsov Naval Academy. In 2011, he was appointed commander of the Pacific Fleet’s submarine forces. Since September 2012 he held the post of the chief of staff - first deputy commander of the Northern Fleet.
