More than 2,000 equipment units involved in artillery drills in Russia’s South

MOSCOW, March 16. /TASS/. More than 2,000 units of weapons and military equipment are involved in a camp exercise of Russia’s Southern Military District conducted at 17 ranges, including in South Ossetia, Armenia and Abkhazia, the district’s press service reported on Wednesday.

"A total of more than 2,000 units of weaponry and military equipment: the Grad and Uragan multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), the MSTA-S and Akatsiya (Acacia) self-propelled howitzers, mortars, as well as anti-tank guided missile systems are engaged in the exercise," the report says.

The drills are underway at 17 firing ranges in Russia’s Southern, Crimean and North Caucasian federal districts, as well as at military bases in South Ossetia, Armenia and Abkhazia.

During the exercise the artillery units will drill actions to destroy simulated enemy’s targets at a distance from 2 to 15 km both by direct fire and indirect fire using a variety of ammunition.

According to the Southern Military District’s press service, each artillery formation and unit will use up more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition of various types and calibers.
