Igor Konashenkov said that these remarks "could not be estimated other than an indication of the concern at the U.S. Congress over Breedlove’s conduct"

KHMEIMIM /Syria/, February 27. /TASS/. Remarks of the U.S. Gen. Philip Breedlove, the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe and the Commander of US European Command, are openly anti-Russian, the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Maj Gen Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.

"Over the past two years it has been hard to find anyone to compare with General Breedlove in the anti-Russia sentiments running high," Konashenkov said in a statement released on Saturday.

"Although in Russia his feverish activity is regarded in the context ‘doctor-patient’, Breedlove’s latest remark at the US Congress on ‘preparing to fight and win’ against Russia in Europe have raised eyebrows even in Europe," he said.

However, Congressman Mac Thornberry, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, told Breedlove before his speech that he would be replaced and after the 40-year-long service would deal with other challenges.

Konashenkov said that these remarks "could not be estimated other than an indication of the concern at the US Congress over Breedlove’s conduct."

"So everything Gen Breedlove used to frighten the world public with has been nothing but a ‘swan song’ and a tardy farewell to the big political stage," the Russian defense official said.
