Putin says practice of Russian army’s surprise inspections to be continued

NOVO-OGAREVO, February 11. /TASS/. The practice of snap checks of Russia’s Armed Forces should be continued, it has gained a good reputation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

"The practice of such surprise inspections should be continued," Putin said during a video conversation with commanders of the Russian army’s military districts, during which the course of drills in the Southern Military District and Crimea was discussed.

"We see that this practice has gained a good reputation and makes it possible to consecutively increase the combat readiness of the army and navy, synergy of actions of units," he said.

The snap check of the combat readiness of the Southern Military District’s troops, a number of formations of the Airborne Troops and military-transport aviation started Monday morning.

The Defense Ministry said the maneuvers involve up to 8,500 personnel, 900 units of military hardware, 200 aircraft and helicopters, as well as 50 vessels. The ministry said forces and facilities of the Central Military District are involved in the maneuvers.
