Developing Su-57, designers faced conflicting requirements — Sukhoi Design Bureau
According to the bureau's director Mikhail Strelets, the Su-57’s key features are its multifunctionality and stealth capabilities, which provide a tactical advantage
MOSCOW, October 29. /TASS/. When developing the Su-57 fighter jet, designers at the Sukhoi Design Bureau had to take into account conflicting requirements regarding radar visibility, aerodynamics, and structural strength, Director of the Sukhoi Design Bureau Mikhail Strelets said in an interview published by the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of Rostec).
"To achieve the Su-57’s high performance characteristics, we had to solve a number of complex design and organizational challenges. We ensured the aircraft’s high performance while balancing the conflicting requirements of stealth, aerodynamics, and structural strength by seeking optimal design solutions," he said.
According to Strelets, the Su-57’s key features are its multifunctionality and stealth capabilities, which provide a tactical advantage. The key design solutions that made this possible include low observability combined with high flight performance and a multifunctional suite of onboard equipment, as well as the ability to operate covertly against both airborne and ground-based enemy targets.
