The corporation noted that one of the key advantages of the Obereg GR is its low weight and comfort, combined with a large area of body protection

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. The modernized Obereg GR body armor, manufactured by the Oktava plant (managed by RT-Capital, a subsidiary of the Rostec State Corporation), has been equipped with a bleeding control system, the corporation’s press service reported.

"The Oktava plant has modernized the Obereg GR body armor for humanitarian demining specialists. The gear includes an integrated automatic tourniquet system that allows users to quickly stop blood loss in critical situations, thereby increasing the chances of saving a life. A prototype of the equipment is currently undergoing testing," the press service said.

It noted that one of the key advantages of the Obereg GR is its low weight and comfort, combined with a large area of body protection. The body armor weighs about 5 kg and does not restrict movement, allowing it to be worn for extended periods of work.

Rostec specified that the mechanism built into the Obereg GR operates on the same principle as a household blood pressure monitor. Along with the body armor, the deminer wears cuffs with airbags on the arms and legs, and a battery-powered pump is located on the back of the gear. A system of tubes runs through the inside of the gear. These tubes inflate the cuffs with air to constrict an injured arm or leg, functioning like a tourniquet. The system’s control panel is located in a protective pocket on the chest. To use it, the wearer must pull a special cord. Then, using the four buttons, the operator can select which limb needs to be constricted. Both arms and both legs can be constricted, if necessary. When help arrives, the cuffs can be unfastened, or the valve can be opened to release the air. In an emergency, the user can cut the pneumatic tourniquet.

"The modernization of the Obereg GR is a direct response to the real needs of specialists working in high-risk environments. The combination of reliable ballistic protection and new features makes the gear as effective as possible in the field. Stopping bleeding is a key step in first aid for limb injuries, and with the new version of the body armor, this can be done independently using a remote control in a matter of seconds. This saves precious time before evacuation to a hospital and increases the chances of a favorable outcome. A prototype of the new equipment has been created, and testing is currently underway," Rostec reported.

According to the state corporation, the Obereg GR is being supplied to humanitarian demining teams in new regions. The gear features ballistic inserts with special protection classes C2 and Br1+. They can withstand pistol bullets and shrapnel, as well as protect against the main types of modern anti-personnel mines. The body armor is equipped with a large collar, eliminating gaps when worn with a helmet with a visor, and it provides extensive protection for the groin and inner thighs. At the same time, the gear is highly ergonomic - a deminer wearing this equipment can work kneeling on one knee.
