Russian forces introduce ceasefire in Kherson direction
The ceasefire is part of the preparations for a humanitarian operation near the town of Alyoshki
MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. The Russian Armed Forces introduced a ceasefire in the Kherson direction at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (1:00 a.m. GMT) to prepare for a humanitarian operation near Alyoshki, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
"As part of preparations for a humanitarian operation near the town of Alyoshki in the Kherson Region, the Russian Armed Forces ceased fire in the Kherson direction at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27," the statement reads.
Russian Chief of the General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov announced on October 23 that the Russian Armed Forces would cease fire in the Kherson direction at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27 to allow for a humanitarian operation in Alyoshki.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Kiev regime has been shelling roads leading to Alyoshki and extensively using drones to destroy vehicles. Ukrainian forces have also been using unmanned aerial vehicles to lay mines along roads to prevent civilian evacuations and impede the delivery of foods, medicine and other essential supplies to Alyoshki.
Over the past week alone, the Kiev regime carried out 18 artillery strikes and more than 120 drone strikes on Alyoshki and main roads in the area, while Russian troops devised over 300 landmines and other explosive devices.
On September 21, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the situation in Alyoshki as critical, saying that food and medicine could not be delivered there amid ongoing Ukrainian shelling and drone attacks. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a phone call on October 9. Putin said the parties had agreed that Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova would remain in constant contact with US First Lady Melania Trump's office.
Peskov pointed out on October 26 that the agreement to conduct a humanitarian operation in Alyoshki could set a precedent for similar missions in other areas. He particularly highlighted the United States’ direct and constructive role in coordinating the process. Peskov added that Russia hoped Ukraine would honor all agreements concerning the humanitarian mission in Alyoshki.
