MOSCOW, August 12. /TASS/. The Kalashnikov Group is developing a new-caliber round capable of penetrating body armor, the company CEO Alan Lushnikov said in an interview with TASS Director General Andrey Kondrashov.

"We are working on this. We are working on a new ballistic solution," said the company head, responding to Kondrashov’s question about whether such a solution exists in Russia.

According to him, the development of the new caliber is related not only to its effectiveness against body armor but also to its range in direct combat. "If we don’t solve this problem, we’ll be at a disadvantage. This is a different ballistic solution, a different caliber, and, as a result, a different set of overall characteristics. If you’re technically and technologically inferior to the enemy, you’ll lose," Lushnikov emphasized.

He added that the development of a new ballistic solution capable of penetrating current and future body armor is envisaged as part of the interdepartmental comprehensive target program for the development of combat equipment for military personnel through 2035.
