MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. Russia’s Kalashnikov Group has increased the production of the shortened AK-12K assault rifles, which are in demand in the special military operation zone in Ukraine, by 15%, the company representatives told TASS.

"The Kalashnikov Group is increasing the production of the newest shortened AK-12K Kalashnikov assault rifles under the 2026 state contract. This product is in high demand in the special military operation zone; its production volume in the first quarter of the year rose by 15% compared to the 2025 production plan. The first batch was delivered to the customer in February 2026," the group said.

The shortened 5.45mm AK-12K assault rifle chambered for the 5.45x39mm cartridge in a MultiCam camouflage pattern was developed by the company’s design team and quickly entered planned production. The rifle features improved technical, ergonomic, and operational characteristics that meet the requirements of modern combat, and is equipped with a low-noise firing device. The shortened version retains all the combat characteristics of the 5.45mm AK-12 assault rifle while maintaining smaller dimensions and weight.

"The production facility is operating around the clock to fully supply customers with the necessary weapons. Maximum focus on fulfilling our obligations and an honest approach to work are our contribution to ensuring the nation’s security," noted Kalashnikov Group CEO, board member of the Union of Russian Machine-Building Enterprises Alan Lushnikov.
