Around 8,500 Ukrainian soldiers killed or wounded in Kharkov Region in May
The main reasons are the overwhelming dominance of Russian air forces and the chaotic logistics of the Ukrainian army
MOSCOW, June 7. /TASS/. Around 8,500 servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were killed or wounded in the Kharkov region during the month of May, while an additional 600 are listed as missing in action. The primary causes of these losses have been attributed to the overwhelming superiority of Russian aviation and the disorganized logistics of the Ukrainian military, according to the press service of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Military-Civilian Administration of the Kharkov region.
"The losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to mount. In May 2025 alone, up to 8,500 servicemen were killed or wounded on the Kupyansk and Kharkov fronts, with more than 600 reported missing. The main reasons are the overwhelming dominance of Russian air forces and the chaotic logistics of the Ukrainian army," the statement said.
Earlier, head of the Russian delegation in negotiations with the Ukrainian side, Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky, reported that "on June 6, in strict accordance with the Istanbul agreements, the Russian side initiated a humanitarian operation to transfer over 6,000 bodies of deceased Ukrainian soldiers to Ukraine, along with the exchange of wounded and seriously ill prisoners of war, as well as prisoners of war under the age of 25." However, Medinsky noted that "the Ukrainian side unexpectedly postponed both the reception of the bodies and the exchange of prisoners indefinitely.".
