Russia-led security bloc supports new security framework in Eurasia — secretary general
Imangali Tasmagambetov told the meeting participants that closer coordination within the CSTO Secretariat and Parliamentary Assembly "can improve the organization's potential"
MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is designed to form the basis of a new continental security framework, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said.
"In the current circumstances, the CSTO remains an important source of stability and predictability in the Eurasian space. The organization is intended to become one of the pillars of a new continental security framework," he said at a meeting of chairpersons of the parliamentary committees of the CSTO member states on international relations, defense and security.
Tasmagambetov told the meeting participants that closer coordination within the CSTO Secretariat and Parliamentary Assembly "can improve the organization's potential and contribute to the process of forming an efficient security space in Eurasia." He added that the CSTO and its Secretariat's crucial front is the bloc's interaction with international structures, primarily the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
