MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/. The Russian Northern Feet’s missile frigate Admiral Gorshkov has completed its Mediterranean deployment and entered the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.

"The Northern Fleet’s frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov that operated in the Mediterranean Sea from July 2024 has entered the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar. The ship’s crew successfully practiced all the assigned missions as part of the Russian Navy’s standing Mediterranean taskforce. In the Atlantic Ocean, the frigate’s crew will continue sharpening its naval skills and will conduct a series of shipborne drills," the press office said in a statement.

Aside from directly coping with its long-distance deployment objectives, the Northern Fleet’s sailors honed their combat and naval skills and held dozens of shipborne air defense and anti-submarine warfare drills, it said.

In early December, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov took part in the joint drills of the Russian Navy and the Aerospace Forces under the direction of Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Alexander Moiseyev. During the drills, the frigate’s crew fired a Tsirkon hypersonic long-range precision missile against a simulated enemy’s naval target in the eastern Mediterranean.

In the Mediterranean Sea, the frigate’s crew accomplished a number of military-diplomatic missions. In particular, the Russian naval ship called at the port of Oran in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and participated in commemorative and ceremonial events dedicated to the centenary of the Russian squadron’s stay at the port of Bizerte in Tunisia.

The frigate Admiral Gorshkov embarked on its long-distance deployment on May 17. Since then, the frigate has covered a distance of over 47,000 nautical miles. The long-distance deployment aimed to demonstrate the Russian flag and ensure Russia’s naval presence.
