SIRIUS, November 27. /TASS/. Russian shipyards are successfully substituting missing imported components when building warships and civilian vessels, Deputy CEO for Engineering in the administrative staff of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Boris Bogomolov said.

"Challenges exist, which are related to a shortage of certain imported components. Certainly, we found the way out and are successfully substituting missing materials in shipbuilding projects at present. Full-size vessels made of a polymeric composite are unique products. We have serial production of the world’s largest minesweeper. These are not some isolated specimens but items produced in series for decades," Bogomolov said.

The senior executive cited a joint work of a number of Russian plants to build hulls of minesweepers and corvettes from composite materials. The use of composites in shipbuilding provides the whole range of advantages in terms of specific strength, durability, stealth pattern, small signature and higher speed of ships, he added.
