CSTO leaders to discuss military-political situation at Astana summit
Imangali Tasmagambetov pointed out that sources of serious challenges and threats to collective security remained on the territory of Afghanistan
MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. The leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) countries will discuss the military and political situation and consider several documents at a summit in Astana on November 28, CSTO Secretary-General Imangali Tasmagambetov told TASS in an interview.
"Since the previous meeting of the CSTO member states’ leaders, many issues that require detailed discussion have accumulated. First of all, an exchange of views on the military and political situation in the regions of collective security and on their borders is expected. The leaders of our countries will assess the results of joint work over the period under review and outline future cooperation guidelines," he said.
"Among the documents submitted for consideration by the Collective Security Council, I would highlight the CSTO’s draft program for strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border," Tasmagambetov said.
He pointed out that sources of serious challenges and threats to collective security remained on the territory of Afghanistan. The proposed set of measures is designed to provide CSTO member states with a much higher level of protection against these threats.
"Special attention will be paid to preparations for the joint celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Kyrgyz Republic will outline the priorities of its CSTO chairmanship in 2025," he added.
