It is reported that NATO member states secure themselves with an opportunity to directly influence the social and political processes within the CIS and in neighboring countries

MOSCOW, November 26. /TASS/. NATO member states are seeking to strengthen their foothold across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), inflating hotbeds of tension and then offering their assistance to settle them, Alexander Bortnikov, head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), said on Tuesday.

"I would like to point out that NATO member states act according to their well-established pattern," Bortnikov said, speaking at the 20th meeting of the heads of security and intelligence agencies of the CIS member states in Moscow.

"After creating and fueling hotbeds of tension, they immediately offer their so-called 'services' to settle the situation, primarily through the opening of military bases, sending [military] advisers, providing military and technical assistance, and training personnel for the power bloc," the FSB chief continued.

In this way, NATO member states "secure themselves with an opportunity to directly influence the social and political processes within the CIS and in neighboring countries," Bortnikov added.
