Organization of Turkic States has no plans to establish joint army yet — Erdogan
The Turkish leader also noted that "issues of cooperation in education and technology transfer" are under discussion within the OTS
ANKARA, November 8. /TASS/. At the current stage, the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has no plans to form a joint armed force, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told his pool reporters following his visits to Kyrgyzstan and Hungary.
"It is too early to discuss it at this stage. There are no such plans now. There are no initiatives or efforts among the OTS states to establish joint armed forces in the future. The [OTS] agreement on a civil defense mechanism is an important step toward expanding security cooperation in our region. It will strengthen coordination and enhance our countries' response to natural disasters and emergencies. The main purpose of this agreement is to strengthen solidarity among the members of the organization in addressing emergencies," the Anadolu news agency quoted Erdogan as saying.
The Turkish leader also noted that "issues of cooperation in education and technology transfer" are under discussion within the OTS. "All of this may contribute to building deeper security ties. These processes take time and depend on various political, economic, and social circumstances. In our era, the importance of alliances, unions, and international organizations has increased significantly. Such steps to enhance solidarity strengthen the power of organizations," Erdogan added.
