UK to participate in joint exercises with Japan, US from 2025
The Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom Grant Shapps said that the defense relationships of the countries were not limited by distance and they stood ready to respond to any threat
LONDON, April 11. /TASS/. Starting from 2025, the United Kingdom will join Japan and the United States for joint exercises in the Indo-Pacific Region, Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom Grant Shapps said.
"Conducting joint exercises sends a strong message to anyone who would seek to undermine the rules-based international order - our defense relationships are not limited by distance and we stand ready to respond to any threat around the globe," Shapps said in a statement.
The UK government announced in May 2023 that next year, a UK naval task force will pay its second voyage to the Indo-Pacific Region since 2021 on a mission to defend peace and stability.
Australia, the UK and the US, who make up the AUKUS security partnership, said on April 8 that they were ready to develop advanced military technologies jointly with Japan. The list of potential areas for joint work includes artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, hypersonic aircraft and interception means, electronic warfare, autonomous submarine systems, information exchange technologies, cybersecurity and radars for tracking objects in space.
