Northern fleet pilots set Arctic records
A certificate was awarded to the commander of the fighter jet regiment of the Northern fleet confirming the entry of the achievements into the Book of Records of the Russian armed forces
MURMANSK, April 9. /TASS/. Pilots of the combined aviation corps of the Northern fleet set several records enshrined in the Book of Records of the Russian armed forces, the fleet said commenting on a meeting of the military council chaired by corps Commander Lieutenant General Alexander Otroshchenko.
"In August 2023, for the first time in history the crews of naval Su-33 fighter jets made the first flight to airfields located on the Arctic Ocean islands. It confirmed the possibility of using fighter jet aviation from Arctic airfields and defending objects of the Russian armed forces in Arctic latitudes and the Northern Sea Route," it said.
In the same time, Su-33 for the first time in history went on combat duty from Rogachevo airfield (Novaya Zemlya Archipelago) and Nagurskaya airfield (Franz Joseph Land Archipelago) and thus confirmed the reliability of aircraft and ability to fulfil missions on Arctic islands.
