Zaporozhye NPP’s reactor hall simulator unscathed following Ukrainian drone attack
On Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone attacked a ZNPP building housing the world’s lone full-scale reactor hall simulator
MELITOPOL, April 9. /TASS/. The roof of a Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) building housing the world's only full-scale reactor hall simulator has been damaged, but the simulator itself was not harmed, a senior ZNPP official told TASS.
"The roof [of a ZNPP building with the reactor hall simulator] is damaged. The simulator itself wasn’t undermined," Yevgeniya Yashina, a ZNPP communications director, said.
On Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone attacked a ZNPP building housing the world’s lone full-scale reactor hall simulator. The drone hit the building’s roof. According to the plant’s press service, no one was injured.
On April 7, the Ukrainian military conducted three attacks on the ZNPP, using drones. First, an area adjacent to the canteen on the premises of the nuclear facility was attacked, with three employees being wounded. Another drone hit the sixth power unit of the ZNPP. On April 8, another Ukrainian kamikaze drone was downed over the nuke plant, and its debris fell on the roof of the same power unit.
The ZNPP, located in Energodar, has six power units with a total capacity of 6 GW. It is Europe’s largest nuclear power generating facility. At the end of February 2022, the facility was taken over by Russian forces. Since then, Ukrainian army units have periodically shelled both residential areas in Energodar and the plant itself using drones, heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers.
