MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Keels for two Borey-AM-class strategic nuclear submarines with ballistic missiles (SSBN) for Russia’s Northern and Pacific fleets will be laid at the Sevmash shipyard in 2024, a source in Russia’s defense industry told TASS.
"This year, keels for modernized Project 955AM Borey-AM nuclear subs will be laid under contracts inked in 2021," the source said.
He added that both Northern and Pacific fleet are expected to have six Borey-class nuclear cruisers in service during this decade, including those that are under construction at this point.
Two Borey and Borey-A lead submarines — The Yury Dolgoruky and The Knyaz Vladimir — are currently in service with Russia’s Northern fleet. The Pacific fleet has four such submarines — The Alexander Nevsky, The Vladimir Monomakh, The Knyaz Oleg and the Generalissimus Suvorov. Each Borey-class submarine carries 16 Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
