Glide bombs increase efficiency of Russian aviation several-fold — expert

MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. The active use of high-explosive glide bombs has multiplied the efficiency of the Russian Aerospace Force, military analyst Igor Korotchenko, the editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, has told TASS.
"Aviation is actively used to hit both fortified areas and locations of Ukrainian forces. The same is true of glide bombs. Standard high explosive bombs are equipped with glide control modules. Frontline aircraft drop them while staying out of reach of the enemy's air defenses. The glide control module connected to the GLONASS system then steers the bombs to target. This feature, in combination with accurate intelligence showing the enemy’s location, multiplies the effectiveness of combat aviation several-fold," Korotchenko said.
He remarked that the use of these bombs was one of the important factors for greater losses of the Ukrainian military which Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu mentioned on Wednesday.
Shoigu visited one of the defense industry enterprises in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The Defense Ministry said that the industrial plant had launched mass production of FAB-3000 glide bombs (having a mass of up to three tons). It has also doubled the production of FAB-1500 bombs and multiplied the output of FAB-500 bombs.
In January, Shoigu said that the glide control modules had turned out to be very effective in the special military operation in Ukraine.
