Russia works on surface drones that can carry up to 100 kg of cargo — source
Such surface drones will have a maximum operating range of 20 km and will be done of composite materials rather than carbon fiber, which is visible to radars
MOSCOW, December 19, /TASS/. Russian experts are developing an unmanned surface attack drones that can carry a payload of up to 10 kg, and may even be able to carry up to 100 kg, a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS.
"The surface boats that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently using are expensive NATO solutions. Furthermore, they do not have as many surface boats as they would want. Our approach will be significantly less expensive and will take into account localizing production in Russia. If necessary, production can be rapidly expanded. The surface drone will be able to carry up to 10 kg of payload, which can be extended to 100 kg depending on customer requirements," the source said.
Such surface drones will have a maximum operating range of 20 km and will be done of composite materials rather than carbon fiber, which is visible to radars. "We use, let’s just say, different composite materials," the source added.
The new surface drones will undergo official testing in February 2024.
