MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. The Baltic Fleet’s naval aircraft practiced flights over Russia’s westernmost exclave of the Kaliningrad Region during drills, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.

"Pilots of all types of aircraft of the Baltic Fleet’s naval aviation conducted flights over the region’s mainland and the sea. During the flights, the crews of Su-30SM, Su-30SM2 and Su-24 aircraft practiced tactical episodes to accomplish the assigned objectives of providing fire support for ground forces, destroying a simulated enemy’s command posts, armor, manpower and surface ships and conducting aerial reconnaissance," the press office said in a statement.

The pilots of Su-27 fighter jets performed the most complex exercises of aerial combat training with the focus on piloting techniques in offensive and defensive maneuvers at various altitudes and speeds, notionally employing the aircraft’s armament. In accomplishing their objectives of conducting a present-day maneuverable aerial battle, the crews of aircraft alternately trained to ferret out, detect and destroy the notional enemy’s warplanes, it said.

Also, the crews of Mi-24 attack, Mi-8 military transport and Ka-27 shipborne helicopters carried out planned combat training flights at the Donskoye airfield in the Kaliningrad Region, it said.

In accomplishing their combat training assignments, the crews of Mi-24 and Mi-8 helicopters practiced take-offs and landings to conduct aerial reconnaissance and also carried out training runs on the mock enemy’s ground targets to provide support for land troops. The pilots of Ka-27 helicopters practiced flights to designated sea areas to reconnoiter the surface situation and also hunted down the mock enemy’s submarines both in the daytime and at night, the press office reported.

The Baltic Fleet’s naval aviation exercise involved over 20 aircraft of various types, the press office reported.
