Su-27 fighter scrambles to identify airborne target approaching Russian border
The fighter crew identified the airborne target as a German Air Force P-3C Orion surveillance plane
MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. A Su-27 plane scrambled in order to identify an airborne target approaching Russian border on April 12, Russia’s National Defense Control Center announced Wednesday.
"On April 12, 2023, Russian means of airspace monitoring detecting an airborne target approaching Russian state border over the Baltic Sea. A Western Military District air defense Su-27 jet fighter scrambled In order to identify the airborne target and prevent violation of the state border," the Center said.
The fighter crew identified the airborne target as a German Air Force P-3C Orion surveillance plane.
"After the foreign military plane turned away from the Russian state border, the Russian fighter successfully returned to its home base," the Center said, adding that no violation of the border was allowed.
The National Defense Control Center noted that the Su-27 sortie was performed in strict compliance with international air law over neutral waters without crossing civilian air routes or dangerous rapprochement with the foreign aircraft.
