It is reported that the US has been reluctant to provide Ukraine with weapons that could be used for a strike on the Kremlin, as the consequences of such an attack are hard to predict
NEW YORK, April 12. /TASS/. The US Defense Intelligence Agency has considered the scenario of a hypothetical Ukrainian strike on the Kremlin, the New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing one of the secret intelligence documents that were leaked on the Internet earlier this year.
The scenario of a strike on the Kremlin was among some other "wild card" events including the death of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, according to the report. The newspaper said outlining various scenarios is standard practice for intelligence agencies.
The report listed several potential outcomes of a Ukrainian strike on the Kremlin, ranging from an escalation of the situation to a pursuit of a negotiated settlement. The intelligence agency didn’t provide assessments as to what outcome it considered the most plausible.
According to the newspaper, the US has been reluctant to provide Ukraine with weapons that could be used for a strike on the Kremlin, as the consequences of such an attack are hard to predict.
The document was probably compiled at the end of February of 2023. US officials declined to say whether the document was genuine, but they did not dispute it either.
