TEL AVIV, April 6. /TASS/. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene a security cabinet after meeting with the country’s top security officials on Thursday, the prime minister’s office said.
"Upon the end of the urgent meeting with the leadership of the security system, the prime minister will convene a meeting of the military-political cabinet," the office said in a statement.
The key ministers of the Netanyahu cabinet will gather following a rocket attack on the country’s north from Lebanon.
The Israel Defense Forces said at least 34 rockets were fired toward Israel from Lebanon on Thursday, with 25 of them being intercepted by anti-aircraft systems and another five landing in Israeli territory. The IDF said no special instructions were issued to civilians in inner Israeli areas.
The escalation in the north of Israel started amid rising tensions in the country’s southern areas, which are adjacent to the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian radicals have been firing rockets toward Israel for two straight days. That’s happening amid the flare-up around the Temple Mount, where several clashes have recently occurred between Palestinians and Israeli forces.
The attack on Israel from Lebanon fell on the first day of Passover, a major Jewish holiday that lasts seven days.
