Russian defense chief inspects armor production at Arzamas engineering plant

Sergey Shoigu was also briefed on the projects of upgrading military hardware and armaments used in the Russian army

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu visited the Arzamas engineering plant in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and inspected the fulfilment of the defense procurement plan, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Thursday.

"The Russian defense chief inspected the enterprise’s production capacities, assembly lines and workshops for the production of armored personnel carriers of various modifications and Tigr armored vehicles," the ministry said in a statement.

The defense chief was also briefed on the projects of upgrading military hardware and armaments used in the Russian army, it said.

The Russian defense minister noted the increased production of armored personnel carriers and Tigr armored vehicles at the enterprise, the ministry reported.

"Upon the completion of his visit, the Russian defense minister thanked the plant’s workforce for ramping up the output and set the task of working on signing long-term contracts that will make it possible to shape a program of further developing production," the statement says.

The Russian defense chief also handed down an order to arrange the production of special armored vehicles to carry medical and communications modules, the ministry said.

"Sergey Shoigu issued an instruction to arrange the production of special armored vehicles in various configurations to carry medical, communications and crew modules," the ministry said.
