MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. The terrorist act in St. Petersburg that caused the death of war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky is a provocation of the Ukrainian side, Chairman of the Federation Council's Defense and Security Committee Viktor Bondarev told TASS on Monday.
"The terrorist act that caused Vladlen's death is a shameful, provocative action by the Ukrainian side, which failed to defeat him in a fair fight but killed him in a sneaky way. It is necessary to improve anti-terrorist measures and strengthen inspection control in public places and during public events," Bondarev said.
The explosion in the cafe happened around 6 p.m. on April 2 during an event hosted by Tatarsky. The journalist was killed on the spot and more than 30 people were injured. According to preliminary data, an explosive device with a yield of more than 200 grams of TNT went off near the stage. Investigators are continuing to work at the scene. On Monday it became known about the detention of Darya Trepova, suspected of involvement in the explosion. According to preliminary information, Trepova had given Tatarsky a statuette containing explosives at a recital. Criminal charges of murder by socially dangerous means (Part 2, Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code) have been filed.
