MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. The US company EcoHealth Alliance has never provided reports to the country’s regulators on its research in the sphere of military biological projects, Chief of Russia’s Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Force Igor Kirillov told a briefing devoted to Washington’s military biological activities on Friday.

"It was discovered that the company had not submitted reports on the nature of the work it was carrying out in a timely manner, while the supervisory body in its turn had failed to act promptly to mitigate the risks associated with this kind of research," he said, referring to the development, transportation, and use of modified pandemic pathogens.

The senior Russian defense official said his country’s top brass had repeatedly highlighted the role of EcoHealth Alliance in US military biological projects, following which the company’s activities had come under scrutiny in the United States itself.

Kirillov also pointed to a January 27 report by a panel of experts from the US National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity citing inadequate monitoring of biological research under the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).

"The paper once again calls for greater transparency of the work being carried out, with contractors - whether private or public - being required to notify supervisory bodies of their goals, objectives and potential risks, regardless of whether they conduct experiments in or outside the United States," he emphasized.

"I’d like to reiterate that such calls have been made on the US leadership for more than 20 years now, since the time when the talks on a legally binding protocol to the BWC were stalled, however, the White House has been reluctant to listen even to the advice of its own experts," Kirillov added.
