Russian-Belarusian group’s participation in Moscow-led bloc’s drills under discussion
It is noted that the use of forces in a CSTO member state should be based on a single concept
MOSCOW, February 14. /TASS/. The possible participation of the Russian-Belarusian group of forces in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation’s (CSTO) drills in 2023 is under discussion, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov said at a press conference on Tuesday.
"The issue is under discussion. In any case, the use of forces and equipment in a [CSTO] member state should be based on a single concept and plan," he said in response to a question.
Sidorov assumed that the drills’ organizers would make a decision on establishing a joint command. "The other option is for us to subordinate troops from the collective force, which will take part in exercises in Belarus this fall in accordance with our plans, to the General Staff. That said, it is a matter for discussion," he noted.
"We only participate in drills and have no other goals," the chief of the CSTO Joint Staff emphasized.
