Sevastopol extends high terrorist threat level indefinitely
Sevastopol is the main base of the Black Sea Fleet
SEVASTOPOL, February 10. /TASS/. The high terrorist threat level (yellow) that’s now in place in Sevastopol has been extended indefinitely, the city government said on its website on Friday.
The regime was introduced on July 31 following an attempted drone attack on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in downtown Sevastopol.
"By the decision of the chairman of Sevastopol’s counterterrorism commission, the governor of Sevastopol, a high-level (yellow) alert for terrorist attacks on the territory of the city of Sevastopol has been issued from 6 p.m. on February 10, 2023. The said alert for terrorist attacks will be in effect indefinitely," the government said in a statement.
Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said earlier that the measure is "exclusively pre-emptive" as the government and law enforcement agencies are in control of the situation. He said the regime was introduced so that special services could continue to ensure beefed-up security.
Sevastopol is the main base of the Black Sea Fleet. Air defense systems have been activated several times over the past few months to engage targets over the city and the sea.
